Chaff Bombs

Prior to the Gulf War the U.S. Navy began
experimenting w/ a new form of chaff.

It was to have used graphite filaments
coated w/ charged carbon particles.

These were packed in containers to be
dropped by planes,
in an effort to confuse radar.

The Navy found that when the filaments drop
onto power lines
they short circuit the system
if they touch 2 lines at the same time.

Lines and equipment often have
to be replaced due to the damage.

They have now apparently developed a
working model called the BLU-114/B.

It is used to help protect the F-117 Stealth's
that were allegedly capable of evading radar.

The U.S. is reportedly using these on Yugo
electricity lines
in an effort to minimize civilian
casualties, and future repair costs.
