Turkish AS 532 Cougar helicopter: 3 May
The Turkish Air Forces Command (TAFC) has received the first of
30 AS 532 Cougar helicopters ordered by Turkey from Eurocopter.
A second helicopter will be delivered from Eurocopter's
Marignane facility in France before the end of the month.
In 1997 Turkey signed a FFr4.45 billion ($618 million) contract with Eurocopter
for 30 Cougar Mk 1s. Called 'Phenix 2', the contract covers the supply of
10 AS 532UL Cougars for the Turkish Army and 20 AS532 UL/AL Cougars for
the TAFC for search-and-rescue and combat search-and-rescue assignments.
Turkish Army Aviation already operates 19 AS 532ULs, which were delivered from 1995
