The crater was made 500 centuries ago when a 60,000-ton meteor melted upon impact
and sprayed molten material in every direction, says Elisabetta Pierazzo,
co-author of a study appearing in the journal Science and a researcher
at the University of Arizona Lunar and Planetary Laboratory.
