China Gets Them
Other Hughes
satellites on the way to China include:
HS

April 1990
AsiaSat 1 was launched aboard a Chinese Long March 3 booster.
The HS 376 AsiaSat spacecraft is the refurbished Westar VI,
which was salvaged by space shuttle astronauts in 1984,
after a faulty perigee kick motor prevented it
from reaching its intended orbit.
Once it was recovered, the insurance underwriters sold it to AsiaSat,
which then contracted with Hughes to refurbish it
and build tracking/control stations in Hong Kong.
AsiaSat 1 is used by govt. and private customers in
China, Thailand, Malaysia, Pakistan,
Hong Kong, Burma, and Mongolia.
It broadcasts TV programs over 10 of it's 24 C-band transponders.
The rest are reserved for the Chinese military.
What
did you expect from a company that 'sheep dips' our soldiers
for use on illegal military operations by corrupt politicians?
XIPS
is also being sold to China.
