An undertaker shovels earth into the grave of White Russian
military leader
Vladimir Kappel as a man holds the Russian Imperial flag at
the Donskoy
Monastery in Moscow 1/13/07. Kappel served as officer in
the Imperial
Russian army during World War One and fought Red Army forces on
the Siberian front in Russia's civil war following the 1917 Bolshevik
revolution. His army was forced to retreat eastwards in the so called
Great
Siberian Ice march, during which he died in 1920. Kappel's
remains were
brought to Moscow from Harbin in China. His reburial
follows the inhumation of
another White forces leader, Anton Denikin,
at the same cemetery in 2005.
