The caption for the photo at right didn't say why the U.S. isn't helping to finance the expansion.

Panama celebrated the 6th anniversary of its ownership of the Panama Canal on Saturday, at a time when canal operators must decide how to finance the expansion of the Atlantic-Pacific waterway to accommodate larger ships in 2006. Just another country devastated by U.S. imperialism.
It wouldn't even exist if the U.S. hadn't stolen the land
from Colombia so we could build the canal.

The U.S. Army used it for everything it was worth,
leaving unexploded ordnance throughout
the country during it's training exorcises.

We even tolerated Manuel Noriega's drug dealing
because he furthered our "interests."
Now it is finally rid of the U.S. military,
but the Chinese are taking over.
