WORLD MORATORIUM
ON NUCLEAR TESTS IS
BROKEN
BY CHINA
N.Y. Times 10/5/93
China detonates a nuclear warhead in the
western desert of Xinjiang province.
Clinton says, the U.S. deeply regrets this action,
but he still refuses to pass economic sanctions.
Instead Clinton threatens to resume Americas nuclear tests.
(Who would have guessed he would choose the option that
has the best chance of leading to another arms race?)
The test threatened to undermine an indefinite extension
of the Nuclear
Non-Proliferation Treaty and negotiations for a comprehensive test ban treaty.
Clinton's friend Wang Jun was involved in
the
acquisition of the materials needed for the test.
(Oh well! We wouldnt want a little thing like a
Nuke'
to stand in the way of trade would we?)
