Relatives and villagers pay tribute to the 66 Mayan Indians killed on
Guatemalan independence day, Sept. 15, 1981, during the Guatemalan civil war,
at a wake in the 'El Calvario' church, in Rabinal, Baja Verapaz, 180 km
(111 miles) north of Guatemala City, Friday, June 13, 2003.
Last year a team of human rights groups and forensic scientists
unearthed the remains of 66 people who were killed in that 1981 massacre
and dozens of others like it. Saturday, friends and family
members planned to burythe remains in a local cemetery.
