Ecuadorean pipeline workers being held in a pumping station
overtaken by protesters were freed on Wednesday during
negotiations to end the demonstration that closed a key pipeline,
an official said. An official of the company that operates the
pipeline said it was not clear if the 24 workers were
released, were rescued or walked out by themselves
after troops held negotiations with protesters barricaded
inside the Sardina station, located 55 miles east of Quito.
