The Golan Heights

Golan Conditions

For 20 yrs. Lebanon has been begging the Israelis to get the hell out
of their country and quit using U.S. weapons to kill innocent people.

Israel finally agreed. One little problem though.

Their pull-out is conditioned on Lebanon being able to stop Muslim
Fundamentalist from staging cross border raids against Israel.

Israel knows that this will never happen until it signs
an agreement to give the Golan Heights back to Syria.
Syria dominates Lebanon by having 35,000 heavily armed soldiers
in the country. They also train and supply the terrorists who
are used as an excuse by Israel to invade Lebanon.

Lebanon's govt. and society are still recovering from a U.S./Israeli
inspired civil war that devastated the country and left it's military
unable to cope w/ the thousands of well armed civilians
who fought in the civil war.

It's Prime Minister, Rafiq Hariri, is a billionaire,
land developer from Saudi Arabia, who took power in 1992.

Israel wants a guarantee that the Muslim terrorists will be disarmed,
but Syria and Lebanon refuse to it, because UN Resolution
425 calls for an unconditional Israeli withdrawal.

A low level war has been going on in south Lebanon
since 1978 when Israel invaded to pursue 'terrorists'.

Area = 1,100 sq. km

Taken from Syria, during the 1967 War.

The territory is rife with political, religious and most
importantly -- economic significance for both countries.

Control of the area allows Israel to cut the supply
of water from the Sea of Galilee to Syria.

Over the last 30 yrs., Israel has
made ample use of of the Golan region.

More than 14,000 Jews have settled in 33 communities
amongst more than 16,000 Druze Arab residents.

Israel has established agriculture, manufacturing and
other industries in the region, and the high slopes
of Golan have become a popular destination
for Israeli ski enthusiasts.
