In mid-1995 I spoke w/ Sen. McCain (R-AZ) on the telephone.
He spoke w/ me because
I had recently met
w/
President Clinton over the POW/MIA/weapons issue.
I asked if he was willing to support legislation
to ban the trade in weapons
to and from countries like China that refuse to account for
U.S. POWs.
I mentioned
Clinton's AK-47 scandal.
He didn't seem to like the idea, and asked if I had
any info
on the POWs who were moved through
Manchouli.
I, of course, said I had no info but the point was that China
and
Russia do and that we should not sell them weapons.
He told me to bring my proposal down to his office. So, I did.
He never responded and I was forced to return to Minnesota
due to health problems. The China $$$ for weapon
scandal would not see the light of day until 1997.
