Light Anti-Tank Weapon |
|
weapons you really can’t say anything bad about. It was used in the Second Indo-China War, by U.S. and S. Vietnamese troops to knock out Russian-made, U.S. Christie suspension-using N. Vietnamese tanks. The LAW gives a single inexperienced soldier the ability to destroy 90% a the world’s MBTs in service at the present time. This includes all of N. Korea’s tanks Clinton is using as an excuse to sabotage the Anti-Personnel Land Mine Treaty. Several LAW using soldiers in tandem could destroy any tank in the world. In can sever the track on any tank in the world.
They only bad part from a logistics standpoint is that it is disposable. However, this means the enemy can only use captured launchers once. Firing it also produces smoke and dust which usually reveals the shooters position. While this is a major flaw in crew-served, reloadable weapons it is probably not so bad w/ the disposable 1 man LAW 80.
The 9mm ammo has the same flight characteristic as the rocket. It is incendiary-tracer ammo w/ an incendiary flash head to allow the gunner to see it’s flight and hit. This should be banned as incendiaries are evil. It has a removable tube end and sliding sight covers to protect it from the elements. When firing the covers are ,of course, removed. While holding the handle the telescoping barrel is pulled from the rear, to make it longer. The sight can be used day and night. It uses a percussion primer that is built into the tube, hence the one shot capability. The primer flame travels through a flash tube to the rocket tail. Except for a small amount that exits from a small vent on the right side, the rocket exhaust gases exit the rear of the tube (like all rocket launchers). This completely negates the recoil effect. No debris is expelled from the front end. The noise level is less than 180 db. It uses a piezo-electric fused, shaped-charge rocket that is fin stabilized. The fins are the spring mounted wrap-around type. The rocket motor is composite aluminum and filament wound. The case has an extruded vane propellant. |
