Exactly what it's name implies.

A vehicle that uses armor to protect the soldiers it carries.

The primary role is to allow infantry units to travel
w/ tanks, to provide protection from anti-tank weapons.

They are also used to scout enemy positions, transport
supplies and casualties and oppress angry citizens.

The armor is not as thick as that on a tank, and
can only protect from small arms fire and shrapnel.

Most are amphibious.
Some use wheels, but some use tank-style tracks.

Most are armed w/ cannons of less than 40mm caliber,
but, many are equipped to use anti-tank rockets.

There are usually many specialized variants of each type.
