1500s
The royal house of Swazi
(a Bantu tribe) comes to power.

1820
The Zulu tribe pushes the Swazi
south to what is now Swaziland.

1903
After initially guarenteeing it's sovereignty,
Britain takes control.

9/6/68
Britain grants 'independence'.

1973
The king repeals the constitution and takes control.

10/13/78
A new constitution, bans political parties.

Since then, occasional demonstrations against
the govt. have been staged.
