The die off isn't just about humans.
Drought, war and the typical human disrespect for the
environment are killing of entire species of other animals.
But, this is never mentioned in AP's photo blurbs.

Three two-week-old red river hog piglets, at right, take refuge from the day
under the protective ear of their father Friday, 6/2/00, at the San Diego Zoo.
The triplets, two females and a male, were born on 5/16/00 at the San Diego
Wild Animal Park. Roughly two dozen red river hogs exist in the United States.
Their numbers in the wilds of Africa are unknown.
