Dr. Cameron gave to Madeleine Smith. Before he did the lobotomy he used her in a CIA mind control program without her knowledge. He drugged her w/ LSD. He deprived her of sleep. He put her in isolation for long periods. He even made her listen to recordings of her own words over and over and over, for hrs. and hrs. and hrs. He capped it all off by sending electric currents through her brain. Then he tried to silence her forever, with a lobotomy long after the scientific community had concluded they were ineffective. Not to mention disgraceful. She had gone to Cameron for chronic schizophrenia. She often hallucinated that she saw several "wise men." These 'men' often told her to commit suicide. At Cameron's urging, Dr. Walter Freeman, professor of neurology at George Washington University, performed the lobotomy. He often joked that he once told a subject he would not cut off her prized hair. Then he did. But after he lobotomized her she didn't care. He eventually performed over 4,000 lobotomies. Cameron attended the one he gave Madeleine. She was only given a local anesthesia, so Freeman could question her and judge the effect by her response. He even went so far as to drive a cannula (a heavy-gauge hypodermic needle) all the way through her brain to the sporadic at the base of her skull. Four major tunnels had been cut into her brain. At the end she was a gurgling mass of flesh. She never read or wrote again. Her family was never told about the surgery. Cameron convinced them to quit seeing her after she was sent to St. John de Dieu Hospital. Catholic nuns were to care for her until she died. Her family later settled a suit against the CIA after it became apparent they were going to deliberately drag the suit out for yrs. and yrs.
