America got into the War of 1812 because of the
British capture and enslavement of U.S. sailors.

It apparently never occurred to any one that war would
lead to more U.S. soldiers being captured, and killed.

1812
The U.S. sent a force (mostly troops from Kentucky) to drive the
British from Frenchtown (now Monroe, Mich.) on the Raisin River.

22, Jan. 1813
These troops fought a force made up of British and Indians.
They were quickly defeated.
The British troops took the able-bodied POWs w/ them when
they left the area. The wounded POWs were left w/ the Indians.

These POWs were massacred by the Indians, who had
no way of treating their wounds and were not happy
w/ the American policy of breaking it's treaties.

I have been unable to find any paintings or engravings of the
battle, which is consistent w/ America's tendency to glorify
the 'victories' while covering up the realities of war.
